Conserve the Water: Give Your Lawn a Winter Break

December 13, 2024

Remember that your lawn and most landscape plants go dormant during winter, meaning their growth slows down significantly or stops altogether. During this period, there is no need to water lawns or other plants.

Why Winter Watering is Unnecessary:

  • Dormant plants have minimal water needs. Excessive watering during winter can lead to root rot and other fungal diseases.
  • Reducing winter watering helps conserve precious water resources, which are particularly valuable during drier periods.

As a reminder, the Upper Trinity Regional Water District has initiated Stage 2 Water Restrictions. Click here to learn more: https://www.palomacreek.org/news/utrwd-initiates-stage-2-water-restrictions

You can typically resume normal watering schedules around St. Patrick's Day, as your lawn begins to green up and temperatures warm.
